One theory goes that Joe feared Mooney would go to the police and, as such, chose to hurt him in this way so he’d be unable to tell the police. Plus, there are all kinds of motives as to why Joe would want to hurt him: he kept him prisoner in the bookstore basement and he knew Joe killed Candace’s lover, Elijah (Esteban Benito). Yeah, Joe may’ve said the guy suffered a stroke and was saved by him a couple of days later, but we all know that the guy is a pretty determined liar. Season one was crafted in a way that left a lot more to be discovered about Mr Mooney (Mark Blum), the bookstore owner and alleged captor of teenage Joe – particularly when it comes to his physical health. Not only do we need to find out just WTF is going on after that ending, but there are a whole load of loose ends we’re hoping are tied up in the second season.
If you loved it as much as we did, you’ll be pleased to know the show will be returning for a second outing – which is a good thing, considering the finale left us hanging off the edge of a cliff like a bunch of binge-watching maniacs. Although since the show was told from the perspective of our antagonist Joe, You is less of a whodunnit and more of a whatdidhedonow.

Based on the novel of the same name by Caroline Kepnes, the psychological thriller stars Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley as sociopathic bookstore owner Joe Goldberg, whose obsession with customer and writer Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail) uncovers a number of sinister revelations about his past. There was a lot to take in after the release of Netflix’s You.
